General Manager
Over the past 17 years Judy has been involved in training and
employment with industry, communities and individuals in one way or another. She has worked in management, policy development, program development, delivery and evaluation with the Queensland Government for much of this time; however she also headed up the Government’s Rapid Response Team (developed to address the large numbers of retrenchments during the GFC) and the Experience Pays Strategy (to promote the benefits of workers over the age of 45 years), both very successful state-wide programs.
Judy also developed and managed the Community Renewal program, a whole-of-government program that worked with highly disadvantaged communities across the state, on a place basis, and developed and implemented projects, in consultation with the community, to assist and empower them. This program won a Premiers Excellence Award.
Judy has recently worked in the tourism industry in the policy area, which has been a good link to the Fitness, Sport and Recreation industry. She is a avid AFL fan, having followed Carlton before coming to Queensland in 1994, however quickly ‘saw the light’ and has been a Lions supporter for many years. She is also a keen follower of League, tennis and basketball.
Manager, Industry Development
Stewart currently manages the Volunteer Portal
Project, a 12month project to develop a central recruitment and promotion hub for our industry enterprises to better engage with and recruit volunteers.
He has been working in the sport and recreation training and employment field since 1995 after coming across from the then Department of Employment Education and Training (Federal). Initially Stewart worked as State Manager for the Recreation Industry Training Company where he was responsible for the introduction of Sport and Recreation traineeships in Queensland.
Since joining the Skills Alliance in 2004 Stewart has continued to work in the traineeship area, including managing several school-based traineeship projects for State Sporting Organisations. Stewart has also managed the Outdoor Recreation Cadetship project, various workforce projects and the Industry Skills Formation Strategy.
Jobs and Skills Development Officer
The JSDO role is to coordinate employment and skills assistance across flood affected regions, and to support workforce development planning aligned to the needs of Fitness, Sports and Recreation.
Deb has worked in the private, public and community sectors and holds a Bachelor of Further Education and Training degree. Deb was a business studies teacher with TAFE Queensland, worked in state government undertaking curriculum development and assessment, policy advice, auditing, project and funding management for a number of years. In 2006 she commenced a consultancy company specialising in working directly with the not-for-profit sector.
Deb sits on the Board of Alexandra Hills Australian Football Club, is a committee member of the Alexandra Hills Sporting Club and has been Treasurer of the Redlands Netball Association, President and Secretary of the Meteors Netball Club and worked closely with Netball Queensland in the past on an African Women’s Netball project.
In her consultancy business, she has provided strategic, operational and club professional development advice to a number of sporting organisations in the South East Queensland area.
Deb brings a wealth of experience to Skills Alliance particularly in the areas of community development strategic networking, employment generation and project management.
Research and Policy Officer
Jo has 20 years’ experience in the Queensland Public Service, of which a large proportion was spent in the vocational education and training sector in a number of areas including policy and planning and operational areas to support apprenticeships and traineeships. She has also worked in the youth affairs portfolio engaging young people in government decision making processes, on employment programs for disadvantaged job seekers, in the sport and recreation portfolio on policy and legislation, and most recently the local government portfolio developing new local government legislation.
Jo joins Skills Alliance as the research and policy officer to develop the Industry Skills Report and undertake other research projects as required.
Administration Officer
Julie came to the Skills Alliance in October, 2011 with a range of knowledge and skills
including Auslan (Australian Sign Language). She has worked in administrative positions, including a PA to the Executive Director of the Liquor Stores of Association of WA, Automation IT (Control Systems Engineers) as Accounts Controller / Administration Assistant.
Business Support Officer
Diana is very pleased to have joined the Skills Alliance team in April 2013 from a previous role supporting the development of policy and the delivery of programs at the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
Having worked in academic libraries in Brisbane and Melbourne for about 17 years, Diana has very strong research and information literacy skills and also brings extensive experience in writing, database administration, project management and stakeholder engagement. She has a keen interest in graphic design, communications and event planning and has successfully led the initial build and redevelopment of several websites.
Diana manages the Skills Alliance social media activity, website content and newsletter. She also organises the annual conference and workshop and supports Jo with policy writing and research activity.
