The Skills Alliance offers the sport, fitness and recreation industry a Training Needs Analysis service.
A TNA aims to break down business problems to see if training needs to be done to solve the problem. It also identifies the nature of the specific training and who needs it.
Results from a TNA fall into two types:
- The first is a training need, which means that the trainer believes that training can rectify the performance gap.
- The second is a need other than training. This includes a number of options such as workflow, recruitment, policy and job design.
Three different types
The Skills Alliance offers three (3) different TNA processes.
Two of these processes are termed an Organisational Analysis which means that it is related to the needs of the organisation as a whole. It identifies where training should be used to achieve organisational goals, objectives, and business plans. The two approaches used by The Skills Alliance for this kind of analysis are:
- A top down approach – diagnosing where the business is at and wishes to be. Following diagnosis, training is generally part of the resultant action plan. The Skills Alliance utilises the Business Health Check conducted in partnership with Small Business Solutions to achieve this.
- A problem-based approach - where a business problem or challenge is analysed into its fundamental parts and appropriate training related responses are recommended. The Skills Alliance utilises the TNA Toolbox Software to achieve this.
The third TNA process is known as a Job Analysis and relates to the needs of specific jobs within the organisation. It develops standards of performance and identifies the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes to achieve the required performance. The Skills Alliance has developed the Workforce Development Needs Assessment to achieve this.
