That's where the Skills Alliance and Queensland Small Business Solutions can help.

Small Business Solutions is a Queensland government initiative. It gives small business managers and owners access to confidential, personalised, one-on-one mentoring. These mentors are qualified and experienced small business professionals; they understand the world you live in.

The Skills Alliance has partnered with Small Business Solutions to bring this flexible, practical, results-focussed program to the sport, fitness and recreation industry.

How it works

The Skills Alliance has tailored three different Small Business Solutions services to the industry's needs.

These are:

1. Business Mentoring Program

This consists of a 'business health check' and three hours of short, sharp focussed sessions with a mentor at your place of business. All discussions remain confidential. Your mentor will listen to your problems and offer practical down-to-earth answers. Mentors can help with such issues as cash flow, business and financial planning, marketing strategy, staff retention, customer service, quality control, skills recognition and training. Completion of this program may also give you a valuable qualification: Certificate IV In Small Business.

2. "Practical Tools For Your Business" - combined workshop and mentoring program

This consists of one-to-one mentoring as above, plus a two-hour workshop. Workshop topics vary.

3. Combined Mentoring & Training Package

This consists of one-to-one mentoring as above, plus access to accelerated training programs for your staff via TAFE. This training recognises your staff's current skills and provides gap training in areas which need to be developed. Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE trainers will travel and deliver the relevant training program within your workplace.
